Blue China, an embroidered rug with an innovative application of the chain-stitch technique
At GAN, we have developed our own system to translate chain-stitching into a rug-making technique. First, we draw the design we want to embroider on a cloth, which is attached to a wooden frame. Using this as a reference, and with a special crochet needle, the pattern is embroidered by hand with great sharpness.
Mapi Millet, designer of Blue China
Mapi Millet is the creative director of GAN. With extensive experience as a textile designer, in 2004 she joined GANDIABLASCO to develop a new strategy and an expansion project for GAN. She is an expert in trends, specifically interested in investigating craft techniques from around the world. Since her incorporation, the brand has embarked on a new trajectory marked by innovation in artisanal manufacturing systems for the production of contemporary designs, as well as the collaboration with international designers. From her research arise not just innovative applications of artisan techniques, but also new product concepts such as GAN Spaces, collections that articulate a whole family of modules, accessories and matching rugs.
