With Canevas, Belgian designer Charlotte Lancelot has managed to create a surprising contemporary collection through a revision of a classic and artisanal technique, eluding nostalgia. On a base of perforated felt, the Canevas collection uses the cross-stitching technique to create unusual aesthetic compositions, drawn with voluminous, colored wool threads. Some are manifested as blurred flower bouquets, others are abstract and have a worn appearance.

This series is composed of rugs, cushions and poufs, all of which can be used independently or combined to create cohesive, informal spaces. All the different elements of the collection are handmade by Indian artisans using 100% virgin wool.

Canevas, a GAN Spaces collection

GAN spaces are collections meticulously constructed from innovative concepts and artisanal production methods. Suggestive approaches that, stemming from a rug, are capable of bringing to life a whole family of modules and accessories with which to design an environment or “space”. A set of designs linked together, designed to project stimulating and contemporary atmospheres with an open, flexible and casual configuration.

Charlotte Lancelot was born and raised in Brussels, where she studied industrial design at the Higher National School of Visual Arts of Cambre. After graduating in 2003, she worked at the office of architect and designer Alain Berteau for two years, before founding her own studio. The work of Charlotte Lancelot is characterized by a deep contemporary revision of traditional techniques and references to the past with new textures and color palettes. Her personal style can be appreciated in all of her creations, including Canevas, launched in 2012, Silaï (2015) and Canevas Geo (2018).
