This frequent combination of square and rectangular shapes, traditional in parquet compositions, has been applied to the Tetragon rug with vivid colors, specifically selected to create a three-dimensional sensation. Since it is irregularly shaped, Tetragon also allows for interesting compositions of more than one piece.

Details

This is the Tetragon rug of the Parquet collection, a series of three kilims created by Swedish design studio Front. Their inspiration came from old parquet flooring patterns, and their varied dispositions and geometry.

Parquet is an innovative collection that updates the aesthetics and format of the traditional kilim

The kilim is an artisan method of rug making in which the weft is tightly woven on a manual loom, using only threads and no knotting. The result is a light fabric with no pile, similar to that of upholstery. It is a technique that offers great flexibility, a feature that GAN explores thoroughly to create high-impact details.

Front, designers of the Parquet collection

Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren are the two leading members of Swedish studio Front, a design practice founded in the early 2000s by a group of four female designers who, shortly after completing their studies, revolutionized the design scene with their experimental proposals. Throughout their career, they have challenged all kinds of conventionalisms, introducing random factors into their process or questioning the role of the designer. They have created robotic furniture, objects by means of explosions, and even enlisted animals to intervene in their creative. They tend to play with illusory perceptions and impressions, as can be seen in their collection conceived for GAN.
