Claire-Anne O'Brien
Originally from Co.Cork Ireland, Claire-Anne O’Brien is a textile designer based in London.
She graduated with a degree in Textiles from Central Saint Martins in 2006 and worked in knitwear production for 2 years. She then went on to complete a Masters in Constructed Textiles at the Royal College of Art in 2010. After graduation she worked with Unesco in the Himalayas, Northern India developing knitted products using local resources and skills and establishing a sustainable income for the villagers. In 2011 Claire-Anne set up her own studio in East London specialising in constructed textiles.
She has exhibited at London Design Festival, Milan Furniture Fair, Wool Modern and Spinexpo.
She received the Future Maker Award in 2011 from the Crafts Council of Ireland.
The studio works on private and commercial commissions and is committed to working with natural materials and local artisans including a team of loyal hand knitters. Claire-Annes practice explores form and scale through material properties and textile making techniques creating fabrics with applications in furniture and interiors.
