Details
Born from an experimental process, the Waan collection masks an innovative textile technique behind its apparent simplicity. Its unique fabric, which gives the illusion of a knotted surface, is however made on a manual loom. The weaving process uses very thick, bicolor yarns, obtained by braiding two wool threads of contrasting tones in a spiral.
Surprisingly, the use of these voluminous yarns results in a fabric that looks like a succession of knots, a brilliant accomplishment by Dutch designer Dienke Dekker. The collection also includes a series of rugs and cushions, all highlighted with fringed edges.
Waan, a GAN Spaces Collection
GAN spaces are collections meticulously constructed from innovative concepts and artisanal production methods. Suggestive proposals that, stemming from a rug, are capable of bringing to life a whole family of modules and accessories with which to design an environment or “space”. A set of designs linked together, designed to project stimulating and contemporary atmospheres with an open, flexible and casual configuration.
Dienke Dekker, designer of the Waan collection
Dienke Dekker is a Dutch designer that specializes in textile design. In 2012 she graduated cum laude from the Design Academy of Eindhoven, a Dutch institution famous for the experimental nature of its training. The influence of her passing through this school is notorious in the first proposals of Dienke Dekker, which are characterized by a revision of both the structure and the design of the yarns used to make fabrics, as well as the materials and production techniques. In this sense, Union of Striped Yarns was her first popular piece of work, a project in which she investigated the aesthetic possibilities of creating textiles using striped threads. This research also laid the foundations for the Waan collection, which she would later design for GAN, using bicolor threads.
